A second-generation native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Lisa has worked as a writer and editor for more than 20 years. She began her career at UCSF Public Affairs in 1994, telling some of the most important stories at UCSF – from the birth of the Mission Bay campus to the development of the UCSF Strategic Plan. She pioneered UCSF’s web presence and continues to lead a team responsible for several websites, including UCSF Today. Lisa earned her BA degree at San Francisco State University, where she majored in broadcast journalism and minored in print journalism. Lisa lives in San Francisco with her family.

After growing up in Germany and the Washington, DC, area, Kirk moved to San Francisco in 1995. He has 13 years of experience as a web developer and information architect, working with financial companies, health care organizations and other businesses as an employee, consultant and freelancer. Kirk has studied digital filmmaking and graphic design, and won an award in Communication Arts Interactive Annual 8. Kirk worked at UC Berkeley for five years before coming to UCSF in 2007. He’s currently the lead web developer for the main UCSF website and other UCSF Public Affairs sites, including the diversity and strategic plan websites.

A fifth-generation San Franciscan, Susan has worked as a documentary and fine art photographer in the Bay Area since 1989. Susan is a recipient of several photography awards, including the Grand Prize in a Peninsula Magazine photo contest in 1991 and a Visiting Artist Residency at the American Academy in Rome, Italy, in 1999. Susan placed in the top 10 in the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions print competition in 2006. Her images have appeared on numerous international gallery websites, in newspapers, and in art, music, literary and alternative press publications, including California History magazine, San Jose Mercury News and San Francisco Bay Guardian. Susan is currently a photographer for UCSF Public Affairs, and continues her freelance documentary and fine art projects.

Laura Shapiro has been a graphic designer for more than 10 years, having trained on the job and at UC Berkeley. Her primary focus is user-centered web design, working in collaboration with colleagues, clients and audiences to create successful and award-winning websites such as MotherJones.com, a two-time Webby winner. Laura is also a skilled video editor and Flash designer. In her copious free time, she edits music videos and plays with her cat.

Shipra’s video news segments have aired on ABC, KTSF and Current TV. Her segments examine issues of cultural identity and social justice. Shipra’s short documentary film works have screened at midsized venues throughout California. She has published feature articles in various print and online publications. With a special interest in the impact of globalization on health policy, Shipra is committed to using film/video to communicate UCSF’s mission of advancing health worldwide™ to the broadest possible audience. Shipra studies Kathak, a classical dance form of North India, at Chhandam School. She is fluent in Hindi. Shipra holds a BA degree in political economy from UC Berkeley.
