The UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine welcomes medical students interested in completing a 6-week summer fellowship in our emergency department. This fellowship is open to medical students who are underrepresented in medicine (URM) and have completed their 1st year in medical school.

We in the department of Neurosurgery are working in partnership with the non-profit organization Oasis for Girls to offer paid internship programs for underserved high school female youth of color (ages 14-18) to expose them to medical and healthcare professional careers with mentorship, career path exploration, and professional development through hospital rotations in labs, the OR, and other academic or healthcare locations, with research projects, presentations, and interactive activities. We accept a group of 15-18 youth per cycle with 3 application / intern cycles per year. We are expanding our programs to reach other demographics (e.g. young Black males, LGBTQ+ youth, college pre-med students). Altogether these programs are housed under the title Neurosurgery Community Internship Programs (NCIP).

RIDR is a research and academic career development program funded by the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and developed by the department's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. We provide unique research experiences and focused mentorship to students from diverse backgrounds. Our goal is to provide an early opportunity for students to explore radiology as a career choice and support the next wave of innovation in our field.

EXCEL is an inter-departmental effort primarily coordinated by the Community and Government Relations department. Other UCSF partners involved in the program include UCSF's Interim Staffing Services, as well as the campus and medical center human resources departments. the UC San Francisco Excellence through Community Engagement & Learning (EXCEL) Program is a clerical/administrative training program which aims to develop the potential workforce in UCSF's surrounding communities and provide San Francisco residents with access to health-field related employment opportunities.

Strategic Opportunities Support (SOS) seeks to advance clinical and translational research at UCSF by providing funding resources to catalyze research and career development activities in clinical and translational sciences.

Voces Latinas Nursing Student Association (VOCES) is a student-based organization at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The purpose of VOCES is to unite students from diverse backgrounds with an interest and passion for the Latino community. Through our educational journey, unique backgrounds, and commitment to community- we aspire to be a source of support to our peers, while highlighting the rewarding field of nursing.

The part-time UCSF student intern will work for 8 weeks over the summer months in a designated department. The Student Intern will be responsible for a number of clerical and support tasks as assigned by the department to which s/he is paired with, as well as project work. The Student Intern is also expected to fully participate in informational and educational activities intended to educate her/him about different health care professions, including brown bag lunch meetings, hospital/clinic tours, and mentorship activities. This program is sponsored by the Medical Center Human Resources.

The Latino Association of Pharmacy Students (LAPS) is a culturally diverse group of students devoted to providing health care services, education and outreach to under-served communities. Our main focus is to serve the Latinos in our community and to provide valuable health education and services, especially in the pharmacy setting. LAPS also strives to teach students about the Spanish language and the Latino culture, so that we may interact more effectively with the populations we serve.

The Latino Medical Student Association mission is to recruit and support individuals in the healthcare professions who will strive to improve the access and delivery of healthcare to Latinos and medically undeserved populations. The LMSA chapter at UCSF seeks to promote this mission as well as to provide a network of support to its member medical students.

Underrepresented in Medicine (UIM) provides racial and ethnic minority students, students from lower-income households, and students who are the first in their family to attend medical school easy access to mentoring. UIM and its mentoring project aim to provide targeted experiences to 1st and 2nd year medical students with less inherent medical experience before they start 3rd year and are evaluated (in part) on their medical school cultural knowledge on the wards. We aim to begin providing this advantage by facilitating mentorship from physicians from all across the Bay Area. These volunteers will donate their time to invest in the next generation of medical professionals, and bestow in them the institutional knowledge, wisdom and emotional support they have acquired throughout their years in medicine.
