An evening event to acknowledge the accomplishments of the LGBTQ Community at UCSF.

The part-time UCSF student intern will work for 8 weeks over the summer months in a designated department. The Student Intern will be responsible for a number of clerical and support tasks as assigned by the department to which s/he is paired with, as well as project work. The Student Intern is also expected to fully participate in informational and educational activities intended to educate her/him about different health care professions, including brown bag lunch meetings, hospital/clinic tours, and mentorship activities. This program is sponsored by the Medical Center Human Resources.

UCSF Financial & Administrative Services - Human Resources (FAS/HR) provides free, confidential, short-term counseling and referral services to all UCSF faculty & staff, as well as organizational consultations to campus and medical center leadership.

The Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA) is a national organization of medical and pre-medical students committed to addressing the unique health challenges of Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities. APAMSA serves as a forum for student leaders to engage these health issues and develop initiatives and projects addressing those needs. The local, regional, and national activities of APAMSA aim to promote the health of the APIA community and help healthcare workers understand how to care for APIA patients in a culturally sensitive manner. Finally, APAMSA provides an important venue for medical students to meet, exchange experiences, and develop personally and professionally through leadership and service.

The Black Student Health Alliance (BSHA) is a student organization devoted to fostering community among students in the Schools of Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physical Therapy and the Graduate Division at UCSF. In collaboration with other campus organizations, we aim to increase diversity within the student body, as well as among faculty and staff. As an extension of this mission, we offer support and guidance to students as they navigate academic institutions and prepare for careers in the health professions. BSHA provides an extended community of peers and mentors by building alliances among professionals and alumni in all health fields, and encourages the collaboration of resources and expertise. Through community events and outreach activities, BSHA contributes to the enrichment of the Black student community in particular, and to the broader UCSF community at large.

Women in Life Sciences (WILS) is an organization run by UCSF trainees, that is dedicated to supporting women graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff at UCSF by organizing networking, mentoring, and career-building activities. Men and women are both welcome to attend all meetings and events.

SACNAS (the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Latinos and Native Americans in Science) at UCSF is a chapter of the National SACNAS Organization, whose mission is to promote the recruitment, retention and career development of underrepresented minorities in the sciences. SACNAS at UCSF is committed to preparing and empowering underrepresented minorities to become leaders that will have a positive impact in our society. To accomplish this, SACNAS at UCSF organizes academic, professional, community service and social activities, creating an enriched environment and support network that serves all of its members and the UCSF community.

UNCF/Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Award are intended to help African American undergraduate students who are interested in science to further their science education and potentially pursue science and engineering careers. The UNCF/Merck awards provide tuition support and opportunities for research experience in a state-of-the-art research facility. At least 15 scholarship awards will be granted in 2015. Each award provides up to $30,000, which includes up to $25,000 towards tuition, room and board, and billable fees. This award is not transferable. Each UNCF/Merck Undergraduate Fellow will be paired with a mentor/s and will be eligible for an Internship at a Merck Facility or other research institution (applied for separately). The recipient's department may apply for a Department Grant of up to $10,000. The actual amount of this grant is continent upon funds remaining in the scholarship portion of the award after all tuition, room and board, and billable fees are paid.

The goal of S4D is to foster a supportive community for the professional development of traditionally underrepresented individuals in scientific research. S4D advocates for mentorship, provides outreach, and promotes discussion on topics that impact an increasingly diverse cohort of current and aspiring scientists.

The UCSF Office of Diversity and Outreach is excited to announce the launch of the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program as a professional development and training opportunity for staff. This initiative is in alignment with the Chancellor's priority on Equity and Inclusion. The curriculum focuses on exploring foundational concepts essential to enhancing an inclusive work environment, through lecture, experiential activities, and independent learning activities. The 4-month Certificate Program's curriculum is designed for the adult learner to have a more self-directed approach to learning. Each curriculum unit has a required core reading assignment, and a number of supplemental readings, video clips, or audio clips to choose from based on learning preference (2 hours minimum for each unit).
