Definition of Diversity
Diversity – a defining feature of California’s past, present, and future – refers to the variety of personal experiences, values, and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and circumstance. Such differences include race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, and geographic region, and more.
— Regents Policy 4440: University of California Diversity Statement
The diversity of the people of California has been the source of innovative ideas and creative accomplishments throughout the state’s history into the present. UC’s diversity goals, documented in Regents Policy 4440, help explain how supporting diversity and equal opportunity in education is integral to fulfilling the University’s historic promise of recognizing and nurturing merit, talent and achievement for all.
The UCSF Office of Diversity and Outreach supports UC’s goals by working to build a broadly diverse community, nurturing a culture that is welcoming and supportive, and engaging diverse ideas for the provision of culturally humble education, discovery, and patient care for all.
We are committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect.
