The Graduate Education Diversity Internship Program provides paid internship and training opportunities during the academic year. The GEDI program works to engage and support students from groups traditionally under-represented in the field of evaluation. The goals of the GEDI Program are to: (1) Expand the pool of graduate students of color and from other under-represented groups who have extended their research capacities to evaluation; (2) Stimulate evaluation thinking concerning under-represented communities and culturally responsive evaluation; (3) Deepen the evaluation profession's capacity to work in racially, ethnically and culturally diverse settings; and (4) Interns may come from a variety of disciplines including public health, education, political science, anthropology, psychology, sociology, social work, and the natural sciences. Their commonality is a strong background in research skills, an interest in extending their capacities to the field of evaluation, and a commitment to thinking deeply about culturally responsive evaluation practice.

The overall purpose of the initiative is to increase the participation of evaluators and academics from underrepresented groups in the profession of evaluation and in the American Evaluation Association. The MSI Faculty Initiative identifies this group of potential and practicing evaluators by drawing from faculty at MSIs. The program focuses on: (1) Broadening their understanding of evaluation as a profession; and (2) Strengthening their knowledge of evaluation theory and methods through workshops, webinars, mentoring and experiential projects.

The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) at the American Nurses Association (ANA) grew as a response to the lack of mental health and substance abuse nurse professionals who could provide culturally competent care to an increasingly diverse population with ever-expanding needs for mental health and substance abuse disorders services, research, advocacy, and policy development. Through the MFP, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides federal grants to increase the number of PhD prepared nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists from underrepresented ethnic minority groups who will: (1) Conduct research about substance abuse and mental health disorders prevention and treatment within minority populations, across all age groups and in a variety of settings; (2) Assume leadership roles in the initiation of scientific investigations and service utilization phenomena that occur among ethnic minority populations; (3) Expand and contribute to the evidence-based practice of substance abuse and mental health disorders prevention and treatment among ethnic minority populations throughout the lifespan; and (4) Function as leaders and members of interdisciplinary research, public health policy, and direct-service care teams with the objective of improving the overall health status of ethnic minority populations.

CLF (Chicana/Latina Foundation) assists Latina students in completing their undergraduate and graduate college education. These scholarships are available on a competitive basis to continuing Latina undergraduate and graduate college students attending a University in Northern California.

Funded by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GMS was established in 1999, as a twenty year commitment, to provide greater access and opportunity to higher education for outstanding students from underrepresented backgrounds (1,000 selected each year; 20,000 in 20 year commitment). The program promotes academic excellence and encourages students to pursue and complete an undergraduate education in all discipline areas and graduate education for those students pursuing studies in computer science, mathematics, life/physical science, engineering, education, public health, library science and/or information science. GMS supports its scholars in a variety of ways including but not limited to personal, leadership and professional development opportunities, networking and mentorships opportunities, as well as financial and academic support to prepare its scholars to be the next leaders in their professions and communities.

HSF (Hispanic Scholarship Fund)/General College Scholarships are designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree.

SALEF (Salvadoran American Leadership & Educational Fund) Health Career Scholarships are offered to students pursuing health related fields. This includes graduating high school seniors, community colleges, vocational/ trade schools, undergraduate, students pursuing a Master in Public Health (MPH) and students in Medical and/or Dentistry schools. Scholarship money is generously provided by The California Wellness Foundation.

In the early 1970's the Chinese American Medical Society went to considerable lengths to provide scholarships to outstanding medical students in need of financial assistance. Throughout the years, funding for the scholarship program have come from generous donations from the CAMS membership and friends of CAMS. Beginning in 1973, an average of 3 to 5 students were selected annually among a pool of applicants to be awarded scholarships of $1,000 each. In 1989, the family of the late Dr. Esther Lim created a scholarship in her memory, and in 1996, Dr. George Liu funded a scholarship in memory of his late wife, Ruth Ru-yin Liu. In 2013, the Jeng Family Fund Scholarship was established by Drs. Dai-Yun, Miji, and Christina A. Jeng to support medical students with financial hardships. A total of 166 scholarships have been awarded from 1973-2013. The recipients, future young physicians and dentists, are now practicing in many locations, and many are on the faculty of medical schools. The Society has been successful in continuing the program, which is sustained by its Educational Fund and 3 remaining named scholarships (Jeng Family Fund Scholarship, Ruth Liu Memorial Scholarship, and the American Center for Chinese Medical Sciences Scholarship) with stipends ranging from $2,500 to $5000 per annum.

The Fresno County Medical Society Scholarship Foundation is an incorporated entity (501 (c) (3) of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society, created to administer a perpetual and revolving scholarship fund for deserving medical students of Fresno and Madera counties. The Scholarship Foundation was made possible by the excess funds realized from the Sabin Oral Polio Sunday Clinics in 1962-63. With the efforts of the citizens of both counties, these clinics were organized and sponsored by Fresno-Madera Medical Society to immunize the population of Fresno and Madera counties against poliomyelitis. Throughout the years, additional funds have been generated through contributions, memorial gifts and repayments on monies from former recipients. All applications for scholarships are reviewed and considered by the Scholarship Foundation Board, members of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society. All information submitted is confidential. Scholastic achievement, need and prospects for completion of the chosen curriculum are important considerations and factors in granting a scholarship.

The ADEA Preventive Dentistry Scholarships support predoctoral dental students who have demonstrated academic excellence in preventive dentistry. Twelve predoctoral dental students will receive the ADEA Preventive Dentistry Scholarships each year. Each student will receive $2,500, which is applied to tuition and fees for predoctoral dental study.
