The goal of TSSA is to facilitate the social connection and intellectual exchange among the Taiwanese community in UCSF. It also aims to facilitate the interaction with other Taiwanese communities around Bay Area and the country. The major activities include celebration for traditional holidays, the annual farewell/welcome party in the summer, and occasional events such as Taiwanese film discussion. We invite students, postdocs, staffs, and faculty members from Taiwan or having interest in Taiwanese culture to join us to appreciate the Taiwanese culture. /

All events feature talented student volunteers as singers, actors, and dancers. The Hispanic Dental Association (HDA) is a national, non-profit organization comprised of oral health professionals and students dedicated to promoting and improving the oral health of the Hispanic community. In addition, they provide advocacy for Hispanic oral health professionals across the US. As one of the leading voices for Hispanic oral health in California, the UCSF student chapter of HDA promotes service, health education, advocacy and leadership to strengthen our Hispanic student community at UCSF. To reach this goal, we organize health fairs and mentorship events as well as socials, fundraisers, and community service events. In addition, we partner with the Chicanos/Latinos for Health Education (CHE), an organization where the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry at UCSF come together to reach our main objective to one day eliminate health disparities in the Bay area.

CIENCIA aims to provide an opportunity for the UCSF community to hear specialized, technical talks in Spanish, foster the development of Spanish speaking skills, and establish networks with faculty with strong international connections. More broadly, CIENCIA was formed to enrich the cultural experience at UCSF by providing an environment to hear impressive scientific talks in a language other than English. To accomplish these goals, CIENCIA organizes a monthly scientific seminar series in Spanish, inviting world-renowned Hispanic scientists, and a variety of social, cultural, and educational activities. Through the process, participants will have the unique opportunity to experience high-level talks in Spanish and even gain general and scientific Spanish vocabulary which will lead to greater opportunities post-graduation and/or better interaction with Spanish speaking colleagues. Furthermore, by integrating UCSF-based and non-UCSF based organizations, this group aims to establish broad connections with both Spanish speaking professionals and those committed to learning or improving their proficiency with the language, especially as it relates to their career field.

The monthly stem cell seminar series brings scientists from all over the world to the forefront of regenerative medicine, and emphasizes the basic research and translational themes of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCSF. These seminars provide an opportunity for the UCSF community to learn about the work being done by prestigious researchers from other institutions, preview unpublished scientific results, initiate collaborations and build networks. The speakers that are invited to the series provide novel insights into stem cell functions, tissue development, and cell-based approaches for the treatment of diseases. Seminars generally occur on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 12:00 pm.

In the Fall of 1981, some concerned staff members and students met to discuss the possibility of forming an Asian Pacific American network on the UC systemwide level. They saw the need for such an organization to directly address issues impacting Asian Pacific Americans on the UC campuses. APASA was thus developed with representative on the UC campuses and was introduced to the San Francisco campus in 1988.
