Through The David C. Lizárraga Fellowship, TELACU recognizes graduate students who demonstrate the potential and commitment to advance TELACU's mission of building self-sufficient communities through economic empowerment.

The David Geffen Medical Scholarships allows recipients to pursue distinguished careers free of financial burden. The scholarships provide full financial support to outstanding students entering the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, covering 100 percent of the instate or out-of-state cost of attending medical school - a complete living stipend, including tuition, room and board, books and supplies. The scholarship covers these costs for the duration of medical school, provided scholars remain in good standing. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit; financial need is not a criterion for eligibility. All applicants to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA will be considered for the scholarships, eliminating the need to submit separate applications. The merit-based scholarships provide full financial support for nearly 20% of entering medical students annually. The David Geffen Medical Scholarships will position recipients to immediately pursue careers in clinical practice, teaching, research and public service, giving them the tools to become leaders in health care, in the community, in academic medicine and in health care policy - without the economic burden that often restricts the choices of many young physicians and scientists.

The Christine A Geehrer Inspiration in Medicine Award (CAGIM) will provide a cash grant of $26,200 each year beginning in 2013 to one deserving individual enrolled in the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. The cash award will be available for tuition, books and materials.

For the fifth year, the United Health Foundation has partnered with NMF to offer the Diverse Medical Scholars Program. Thirty (30) scholars will be selected to receive the $7,000 scholarship and complete a self-directed community health project at the community site of their choice. Selected scholars will be enrolled in a medical school within one of the identified target areas, be a member of an underrepresented minority group, and have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to underserved communities.

You can apply to the Scholarship Program if you are committed to primary care and accepted to or enrolled in an accredited U.S. school in one of the following primary care disciplines: (1) Physicians (MD or DO); (2) Dentists; (3) Nurse Practitioners; (4) Certified Nurse-Midwives; (5) Physician Assistants; and (6) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The scholarship pays tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provides a living stipend in return for a commitment to work at least 2 years at an NHSC-approved site in a medically underserved community. For each year of financial support (up to four years), the student agrees to serve one year (minimum two years) at an NHSC-approved site in a high-need urban, rural, or frontier community across the nation. Service begins upon graduation (and completion of primary care residency training for doctors and dentists). The NHSC helps scholars find a practice site that's right for them. When in service, scholars earn a market-rate salary, paid by the employing facility. Scholarship payments other than the living stipend are federal income tax-free. The Scholarship Program accepts applications once each year. Applicants chosen to receive the scholarship are notified no later than September 30.

The HIV Vaccine Trials Network, in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is investing in a young generation of HIV prevention researchers by providing African-American and Latino/a medical students with opportunities for independent research along with structured mentoring, project and salary funding, training, and professional development activities.

NURSE Corps members help to create healthy communities in poor urban and rural areas as they build their own fulfilling and productive careers. NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program sets registered nurses (including advanced practice registered nurses and nursing faculty) on a rewarding career path while paying off 60 percent of their unpaid nursing student loans in just 2 years - plus an additional 25 percent of the original balance for an optional third year. In return, NURSE Corps members fulfilling a service obligation at one of the thousands of eligible nonprofit hospitals, clinics, nursing schools and other facilities located in designated mental health or primary medical care Health Professional Shortage Areas across the U.S. NURSE Corps members enjoy the same competitive pay and benefits negotiated with their employer as do non-members.

NURSE Corps Scholarship Program enables students accepted or enrolled in a diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate nursing programs, including RN to BSN, RN to MSN-NP, Direct Entry MSN-NP program to receive funding for tuition, fees and other educational costs in exchange for working at an eligible NURSE Corps site upon graduation. The NURSE Corps Scholarship Program is a selective program of the U.S. Government that helps alleviate the critical shortage of nurses currently experienced by certain types of health care facilities located in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). Upon graduation, NURSE Corps Scholarship recipients work at these facilities for at least 2 years, earning the same competitive salary and benefits as any new hire. As much as half of the award funds are reserved for students pursuing a master's level nurse practitioner degree.

The NIH (National Institute of Health Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. The escalating costs of advanced education and training in medicine and clinical specialties are forcing some scientists to abandon their research careers for higher-paying private industry or private practice careers. The LRPs counteract that financial pressure by repaying up to $35,000 annually of a researcher's qualified educational debt in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research. Since tomorrow's medical breakthroughs will be made by investigators starting in their research careers today, the LRPs represent an important investment by NIH in the future of health discovery and the wellbeing of the Nation. There are eight LRPs, five for researchers not employed by NIH (Extramural) and three for researchers employed by NIH (Intramural). Research funding from NIH is not required to participate in the Extramural LRPs, and Extramural and Intramural LRP awardees may apply for subsequent, competitive renewal awards as long as they meet Program eligibility. Although organized around broad research areas, the LRPs were never intended to fund research projects.
