The vision of the PLUS program is that its graduates will be pediatrician-leaders who are creating systematic and sustainable improvements to the health of underserved children. Our mission is to train and inspire future leaders in pediatrics to identify and address the various issues that impact the health of children from vulnerable communities. Career Development provide resources to enable greater diversity at UCSF, to support mentorship, and to improve the recruitment and retention of under-represented clinical and translational researchers. The goal of this program aims; (1) To advance the careers of clinical and translational researchers by providing career advice, research mentoring, and support; (2) To advance under-represented groups in clinical and translational science at UCSF, in collaboration with the UCSF Chancellor's Diversity Initiative and School-based Diversity Taskforces, the CTSI CD Program has vigorous programs to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty and trainees; and (3) To promote culture change so that clinical and translational researchers are appropriately rewarded.

This year-long, structured program is designed for first time applicants who believe they need additional preparation in order to be competitive applicants and for previously unsuccessful applicants to dental school. The program are especially interested in individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, underserved communities and/or from groups traditionally underrepresented in the profession. The comprehensive program is designed to help participants become more competitive dental school applicants in a future admission cycle, and consists of the following key elements; (1) Mentoring and academic advising; (2) A full year of upper division science course work through the University of California, Berkeley Extension; (3) Assistance with the dental school application process; (4) Academic and learning skills development; (5) Intensive DAT review course; (6) Faculty mentoring; and (7) Interprofessional collaboration with the Medical and Pharmacy post-baccalaureate programs.

The HSHPS (Hispanic Serving Health Professions School) Graduate Fellowship Training Program provides paid and unpaid training opportunities for graduate and doctoral students and recent graduates interested in working on Hispanic health research. Fellows are placed throughout the United States and Latin America within government agencies and academic institutions. All HSHPS fellows work alongside (1) a mentor; (2) an experienced researcher; (3) or senior staff member and assist with a research project as it relates to minority health issues and participate in a series of professional development seminars.

Those awarded the Allied Healthcare Scholarship may receive up to $8,000 for one year of school. If awarded, recipients agree to a twelve (12) month service obligation practicing full time, direct patient care at a qualified facility in California. Qualified facilities include those designated by The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources Administration (HRSA) or California's Shortage Designation Program, a liaison to the federal Shortage Designation Branch (SDB) of Health Resources and Services Administration as Medically Underserved Area (MUA), Medically Underserved Population (MUP), Health Professional Shortage Area- Primary Care (HPSA-PC), Health Professional Shortage Area- Mental Health (HPSA-MH). In addition to the Federal and CA state designations, any state, county, veteran, or correctional facility qualifies as well as Indian Health Centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers.
