The Fresno County Medical Society Scholarship Foundation is an incorporated entity (501 (c) (3) of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society, created to administer a perpetual and revolving scholarship fund for deserving medical students of Fresno and Madera counties. The Scholarship Foundation was made possible by the excess funds realized from the Sabin Oral Polio Sunday Clinics in 1962-63. With the efforts of the citizens of both counties, these clinics were organized and sponsored by Fresno-Madera Medical Society to immunize the population of Fresno and Madera counties against poliomyelitis. Throughout the years, additional funds have been generated through contributions, memorial gifts and repayments on monies from former recipients. All applications for scholarships are reviewed and considered by the Scholarship Foundation Board, members of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society. All information submitted is confidential. Scholastic achievement, need and prospects for completion of the chosen curriculum are important considerations and factors in granting a scholarship.

eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage California students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community. Scholarships may be used for post-secondary education at accredited institutions - colleges, universities, and trade schools. Some of the scholarships are specifically for nursing or medical school. eQuality is a volunteer-led effort, keeping administrative costs low. We are a fiscally sponsored project of Horizons Foundation.

The Resource Allocation Program (RAP) is a campus-wide program that acts as a one-stop shop for several intramural funding mechanisms. The RAP manages the dissemination, submission, review, and award for these opportunities, while enabling the funding agencies to maintain full oversight of their funding mechanisms and awardees. The UCSF Office of Diversity and Outreach is excited to announce the launch of the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program as a professional development and training opportunity for staff. This initiative is in alignment with the Chancellor's priority on Equity and Inclusion. The curriculum focuses on exploring foundational concepts essential to enhancing an inclusive work environment, through lecture, experiential activities, and independent learning activities. The 4-month Certificate Program's curriculum is designed for the adult learner to have a more self-directed approach to learning. Each curriculum unit has a required core reading assignment, and a number of supplemental readings, video clips, or audio clips to choose from based on learning preference (2 hours minimum for each unit).

Free faculty development workshops fall into several series to serve UCSF faculty and learners at all levels of educational development and interest that includes: 1) Key Educational Skills Series: Foundational educational knowledge; 2) Clinical Education Skills Series: Topics with a clinical teaching focus; 3) Simulation Education Skills Series: Skills for teaching with simulation; 4) Interprofessional Teaching Skills Series: Skills for creating and maximizing interprofessional learning opportunities; 5) Teaching for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety: Skills for teaching QI/PS in didactic and clinical settings; 6) Education Leadership Skills Series: Skills for current and aspiring education leaders; 7) Assessment and Education Research Skills Series: Skills used in learner assessment, program evaluation, and education research; 8) Medical Education Grand Rounds: Short, up-to-the minute lectures, often with visiting scholars; 9) Special Topics in Education Series: Timely and cutting edge topics by invited and local faculty developers. The workshops address one or more of six educational themes: (1) Assessment; (2) Curriculum Development; (3) Leadership and Career ; (4) Learning; (5) Teaching; and (6) Research.

The monthly stem cell seminar series brings scientists from all over the world to the forefront of regenerative medicine, and emphasizes the basic research and translational themes of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCSF. These seminars provide an opportunity for the UCSF community to learn about the work being done by prestigious researchers from other institutions, preview unpublished scientific results, initiate collaborations and build networks. The speakers that are invited to the series provide novel insights into stem cell functions, tissue development, and cell-based approaches for the treatment of diseases. Seminars generally occur on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 12:00 pm.
