The Interprofessional Health Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program is a year-long, structured program designed for those who have completed the required undergraduate coursework but feel they need a stronger academic foundation to be more competitive in applying to pharmacy school. Program applicants must have been previously unsuccessful in gaining admission to the UCSF School of Pharmacy or any other pharmacy school. We are especially interested in individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, underserved communities, and from groups traditionally underrepresented in the pharmacy profession.

Our mission is to provide access to quality health care for underserved people of California. This is accomplished by linking academic training programs with training sites in urban and rural underserved areas of the state such as community clinics and health centers, hospitals and other community based sites. The California AHEC has 13 centers, each responsible for a geographic service area in an urban or rural part of the state. Each center develops its own programs based on the needs of their service area and include continuing education for health professionals and staff working in underserved communities; rotations and other community experiences for health professions students and residents and youth health careers programs for underrepresented minority and other disadvantaged K-14 students. Each of these programs seeks to train future HPs, recruit and retain health professionals for community clinics and health centers and other types of sites that provide medical/dental and behavioral health services to the underserved populations of CA.

The Women in Academic Medicine group was formed at UCSF Fresno in 2014 to create a supportive community to help foster and support women pursuing academic careers in medicine at all stages of their careers. The group meets quarterly (October, January, April and July) to provide career development and networking opportunities.

The Health Careers Opportunity Program is a partnership between the University of California, San Francisco Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research and California State University Fresno (Fresno State) to provide support to disadvantaged Fresno State students committed to becoming competitive applicants to health professional schools. Selected students engage in a structured program of academic enrichment and social support, preparing them for admission into health professional school. UNCF/Merck Graduate Science Research Dissertation Fellowships will help African American graduate students complete coursework, conduct research, and prepare the dissertation required for a doctoral degree in the biomedically relevant life or physical sciences and engineering. Awards up to $53,500. At least 12 dissertation fellowships will be awarded in 2014. Each fellowship provides up to a maximum of $53,500, which includes a Stipend of up to $43,500 for the Fellow and a Research Grant of up to $10,000 to support the research needs of the Fellow. The fellowship stipend is intended to cover from 12-24 months of fellowship tenure. A maximum of $30,000 in stipend may be received in any 12 month period. The Fellow must be engaged in and within 1-3 years of completing the dissertation research having successfully completed all qualifying exams by September 1, 2015. Each UNCF Merck Graduate Fellow will be paired with a mentor/s and will be expected to maintain regular contact with his/her mentor. Each Fellow will present a progress report of research work during the last half of the fellowship tenure. Each Fellow must also submit a two-page research summary of their fellowship research and updated Curriculum Vitea to UNCF at the end of their fellowship tenure. UNCF must be notified upon receipt of the degree.

The UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in conjunction with the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center is pleased to announce its two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology-Oncology beginning July 1.The fellows will engage in pharmaceutical sciences research in quantitative pharmacology, drug discovery, drug development and clinical oncology at UC San Diego and at Pfizer Global Research and Development Oncology Business Unit, La Jolla.
