The Youth Steering Committee (YSC) is a young women's health and leadership program for a group of diverse high school girls from SF public and charter schools. The YSC works together for 9 months to explore young women's health issues and to create a health & leadership summit for other high school girls. The YSC is based on a positive youth development philosophy which emphasizes the strengths and assets of young women and encourages them to see themselves as leaders among their peers, within their schools, and throughout their community. The YSC is designed to be a safe place where young women can come together to share their thoughts and ideas, develop self-confidence, and build leadership skills.

The Visiting Scholars Program (VSP) is a funded program designed to give students with a diverse background a chance to experience the training that the University of Washington Department of Medicine has to offer. Students will spend four weeks on an internal medicine elective at the University of Washington Medical Center or Harborview Medical Center and care for a variety of patients in our tertiary care centers. Near the completion of the elective students will be offered an opportunity to interview with the internal medicine residency program. Accepted applicants will receive funding for their travel and lodging expenses.

The mission of DIVA is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful community for students, faculty, and staff in the School of Nursing. DIVA embraces the "big umbrella" of diversity to include human diversity in its many forms: gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability, socioeconomic status, age, and spiritual and political beliefs, among others. To this end, DIVA focuses on addressing issues related to bias, stereotyping, prejudicial attitudes, and exclusionary practices in order to create a welcoming environment with a particular focus on underrepresented faculty, students, and staff.

UCSF Advocates is the community of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters who stand up for values and policies that are fundamental to UCSF's mission of advancing health worldwide. We mobilize our community to stand up and speak out to help shape local, state, and federal policies that promote and protect our core missions of healthcare, scientific research and education. We educate people about the issues that impact out work and our community. The Summer Research Program provides research opportunities in the biomedical and biological sciences. Students selected for summer research at UC San Francisco spend up to ten weeks working with UCSF faculty members on research projects. Participants in the program take part in seminars, lectures, and social events, creating a cohesive and supportive community. At the end of the program, students give presentations of their research and get valuable feedback from students, postdocs, and faculty at UCSF. Students are supported in these programs by funds from the AMGEN Scholars Program, the National Science Foundation, Genentech, the University of California Office of the President, and UCSF Graduate Division.

Inside UCSF is an annual outreach program geared towards students at two- and four-year degree schools who are interested in pursuing careers in health and science. This interprofessional opportunity is designed to: introduce students to a specific health science career path; provide opportunities to meet with students and faculty; and offer a chance to become inspired about future career possibilities.

Preview Sessions are in-person presentations to help prospective students learn more about our PharmD degree program. These sessions highlight the UCSF curriculum and admissions process.

This special program will help you discover pharmacy as a profession and learn about the training you need to succeed in this well-respected, highly-compensated healthcare field. Participants will learn about the unique role of pharmacists in healthcare, the many options for career specialization, and the workforce demand for pharmacy professionals. Students and faculty will share their insights on the Doctor of Pharmacy program at UCSF, the curriculum, admissions requirements, and preparation for the field of pharmacy. Career Development provide resources to enable greater diversity at UCSF, to support mentorship, and to improve the recruitment and retention of under-represented clinical and translational researchers. The goal of this program aims; (1) To advance the careers of clinical and translational researchers by providing career advice, research mentoring, and support; (2) To advance under-represented groups in clinical and translational science at UCSF, in collaboration with the UCSF Chancellor's Diversity Initiative and School-based Diversity Taskforces, the CTSI CD Program has vigorous programs to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty and trainees; and (3) To promote culture change so that clinical and translational researchers are appropriately rewarded.

This program is offered to resident applicants and to those who attend medical school here at UCSF. Through this program applicants tour UCSF, have lunch with our faculty and Chair, as well as some of the residents prior to attending the campus. The Diversity Day program offered by the Graduate Medical Education Office.
